THE LOST HEIRESS
It turned out to be Vincent and Layla.
I didn’t expect to meet them here.
It seemed they had settled the storm of offending the client.
I quickly calmed down.
To be honest, over the past half year, I had almost forgotten Vincent.
My parents doted on me, and to make up for the lost family affection, they took me traveling around the world.
I originally thought it would take a very long time to walk out of the shadow Vincent cast on me.
But the world is too big.
I didn’t have the time to think about him at all.
“Daphne?! Is it really you?! Thank God! You’re still alive!”
But it seemed Vincent wasn’t as calm.
He ran to stand in front of me.
Suddenly, his eyes reddened.
“That’s great, you’re really still here… I’m not dreaming…”
“It seems your memory has fully recovered.”
Vincent froze.
He almost forgot, his amnesia was an act.
“It’s recovered,” he replied guiltily.
I turned to look at Layla.
She was the one who spilled the wine.
“Regarding the stained suit—”
But before I could finish.
I was interrupted by Layla:
“Daphne, what is your status, how dare you trespass here?”
“Trespass?” I was a bit surprised.
“What else?” She looked me up and down, “With your status and background, it’s impossible for you to be invited by the Lancaster family.”
Saying that, she rudely reached out her hand,
“Show me your invitation.”
Of course, I couldn’t produce any invitation letter.
Layla put on a ‘just as I thought’ expression and said loudly:
“Aren’t you afraid of being thrown out by the guards?!”
I remained silent.
Mainly because I couldn’t process it for a moment.
Did she know what she was saying?
Layla pulled Vincent’s arm:
“I told you, she must have faked her death to make you pity her.
“Look, she can’t hold back anymore, she followed us all the way here!”
Vincent ignored her, just staring blankly at me.
Layla had to aim her spearhead at me again:
“Daphne, do you know what place this is? Everyone gathered here today is a prominent figure in the business world! How did you sneak in?”
I said coldly: “Walked in on my feet.”
“You’re really bold!”
Hearing this, Layla became even more convinced of her guess.
“I advise you to leave quickly, otherwise don’t blame me for calling security to throw you out.”
“Go ahead and call.”
I didn’t lose my temper, entirely because of Arthur’s instructions.
Visitors are guests.
As hosts, we must yield to the guests.
Even if the guest has a problem with their brain.
I couldn’t be bothered to waste words with them and was about to leave.
Vincent blocked my way:
“Daphne, where else do you want to go? Come back with me later.”
I shook off his hand: “I am no longer Daphne.”
“Then who are you?”
“I am the youngest daughter of the Lancaster family, Daphne Lancaster.”
Saying that, Layla let out a mocking laugh.
“You? You don’t even draft a script when you lie.
“Daphne, oh Daphne, haven’t seen you for half a year, how did you become so vain?”
She stubbornly refused to believe my words.
Forget it.
I was too tired to explain, turned around and walked away.
A while later, the banquet began.
Everyone gathered in the main hall.
Just as Eleanor was about to go on stage to give a speech.
Layla suddenly raised her hand high.
“Wait, I want to report, there is someone here who wasn’t invited and sneaked in!”
The venue instantly erupted in an uproar.
“Who is it? So bold.”
Layla pointed at me: “It’s her!”
Everyone’s gaze instantly focused on me.
The faces of the Lancaster family members began to look colorful.
“What proof do you have?”
Layla said firmly:
“Because I know her. Her name is Daphne, my college classmate. She was orphaned since childhood, and her relatives didn’t care about her. She didn’t even have enough to eat, and going to college was entirely dependent on financial aid. How could a person like this appear at today’s banquet?”
She wasn’t wrong at all.
After I was abducted, the couple who bought me seemed to suffer divine retribution, dying in a car crash not long after.
The relatives didn’t want a burden like me.
I grew up eating charity meals.
Sometimes, there wasn’t even charity food, and I could only rummage through the trash for leftovers.
“But, the necklace on her neck… is very expensive…”
Someone sharp-eyed raised a question.
“That’s exactly the point!”
Layla looked filled with righteous indignation,
“I just saw her come out of the lounge. She definitely stole that necklace!”
Murmurs rose from all sides.
Everyone was checking if they had lost anything.
Layla said considerately: “Don’t worry everyone, I’ve already notified the police.”
“Enough!”
Arthur finally couldn’t bear it anymore and shouted in anger,
“The thief you’re talking about is my biological sister!”
