THE LOST HEIRESS
In the evening, I had to deliver a document to the company.
Before leaving, I casually threw on that pink coat.
While walking, I suspected I was being followed.
Soon, the road ahead was blocked.
“Found you, Vincent’s girlfriend.”
A few men surrounded me.
I said: “You’ve got the wrong person.”
“Bullshit! I’ve been watching you for a long time! You’re always with that guy Vincent, if it’s not you, who is it?”
I calmly asked back: “What time is it now?”
“Eleven o’clock… So what?” The man was confused by my question.
“If Vincent really loved me, would he let me go out alone at eleven o’clock at night, knowing there’s danger?”
“…That makes sense. But I wouldn’t mistake the coat you’re wearing.”
“The coat?”
The man showed me a photo.
It was a photo of Vincent and Layla.
Layla was wearing this exact pink trench coat; even the charm on the zipper was identical.
It was just that she was wearing a hood, so her face couldn’t be seen clearly.
“I’m not wrong.”
The man looked me up and down.
“See these English letters on the pocket? I know this thing is custom-made, you are the person I’m looking for.”
I looked down and only then noticed.
Three letters were embroidered on the pocket.
“LAY”.
No wonder he gave me this coat.
Wearing it, I became Layla herself.
Acting as the perfect scapegoat for her.
When I got home, it was past twelve.
Vincent was not asleep yet.
Hearing the door open, he bounced up instantly.
Then he nervously examined me.
Seeing me completely unharmed, he breathed a sigh of relief, but also looked a bit surprised:
“You’re back so quickly?”
“Yeah.”
“Did anything happen?”
“What should have happened to me?”
I stared at him and asked back.
“I didn’t mean that! I meant, it’s good that you didn’t run into danger.”
After acting for a month, Vincent finally revealed a flaw and panicked.
I withdrew my gaze, pretending to be calm: “I’m tired, going to sleep.”
Thinking back to what just happened, I was actually still a bit dazed.
At the critical moment, Arthur Lancaster had appeared.
He didn’t have to do anything, just standing there was enough to make those thugs scatter and run.
The Lancaster family of the Capital.
Everyone in this circle knew them.
Arthur handed me an ice cream: “Good thing I followed you.”
I asked: “It’s so late, why are you still around here?”
“You still haven’t agreed to come home with me. I couldn’t sleep, so I just came out for a walk. I didn’t expect to run into you.”
Arthur looked at me with heartache:
“Did things like this happen often before?
“During the years we were separated, is this how you lived?”
I shook my head: “No, don’t worry.”
Actually, even now I still couldn’t believe it.
Arthur Lancaster was my biological brother.
The little girl the Lancaster family lost years ago turned out to be me.
To find me, they had traveled all over the world all these years.
The day the DNA test results came out, Arthur brought our parents, dropping all their work, just to come pick me up.
But I still hadn’t agreed.
The Capital, the city of prosperity, was too far away for me.
Besides, if I left, what would Vincent do?
The sound of the shower brought me back to reality.
Taking advantage of Vincent showering.
I used the computer to check his chat logs.
After his “amnesia,” Vincent registered a secondary account just to contact me.
He said he forgot his original account password.
But on his computer, he was logged into his main account.
The pinned chat was Layla.
[Brother Vincent, are you doing okay over there?] Layla asked.
Vincent said: [They’ve already targeted this place, absolutely do not come looking for me recently.]
Layla: [Sigh, I just couldn’t bear to see you forced to drink so much by that client, so I scolded him. I didn’t expect to offend him so badly.]
Vincent: [Be good, I know you did it for my sake.]
So that’s how he offended those people.
Layla’s childish temper not only ruined Vincent’s cooperation but also got him in deep trouble.
Layla asked again: [Over there, you aren’t sleeping in the same room as her, are you?]
[No.]
Layla completely believed this answer.
[That’s good, we haven’t even held hands yet, you’re not allowed to be too intimate with her! Also, don’t sacrifice too much, anyway Daphne loves you so much, just casually use her a bit and it’ll be fine ~]
Layla didn’t know.
Her Brother Vincent lied.
Not only did he sleep in the same bed with me, but he was also energetic enough to cling to me every night.
Finally, Layla asked: [When do you plan to come back?]
Vincent: [Soon. If the Lancaster family is willing to help, I can return very quickly.]
[When you return, how do you plan to explain it to Daphne?]
[I’ll just say my memory recovered, and the one I love isn’t her.]
I didn’t read the rest.
The shower hadn’t stopped.
I closed the door and dialed Arthur’s number.
“I’ve made up my mind, I’ll go home with you. But I have one request.
“Can you… cancel my current household registration?”
