THE LOST HEIRESS
When my biological parents wanted to take me away, my first reaction was:
What about Vincent?
He had just lost his memory, forgotten everything, and only remembered me.
I was planning to take him with me,
But I unexpectedly overheard him talking to someone else:
“Amnesia? I’m faking it.”
“I offended someone and didn’t want my girlfriend to be targeted.”
“Daphne will be fine. If she gets bullied, I won’t feel sorry for her.”
Hearing these words, I breathed a long sigh of relief.
That’s good.
Tomorrow, when I erase this identity of Daphne,
he probably won’t feel sad.

I came home early, wanting to give Vincent a surprise.
Then I heard those words.
“Amnesia? Of course I’m pretending.”
The door to his room wasn’t fully closed.
An arrogant, lazy voice drifted out.
“I offended some people recently, and the other party said they’d take revenge, not even sparing my woman.”
“Layla hangs around me a lot and got targeted by those people.”
“I had no choice but to find a scapegoat for her.”
Layla is Vincent’s childhood sweetheart.
On the other end of the line, his friend asked: “But is this method effective?”
“It is. Those guys really think Daphne is my lover now.”
“You’re really ruthless. Daphne has loved you for so many years…”
“You don’t understand,”
Vincent interrupted him.
“Layla was so scared she cried for a whole day. I really felt bad for her, so I resorted to this bad plan. Otherwise, do you think I want to be separated from Layla?”
“What about Daphne? Don’t you feel any pity for her?”
“She’ll be fine.”
Vincent answered without thinking.
“She’s not Layla. Even if she gets bullied, I won’t feel sorry for her.”
I stood blankly at the door.
Feeling somewhat at a loss.
I had no idea Vincent and Layla were together.
If I had known, I definitely would have kept my distance.
The fact that I liked Vincent was no secret.
But I also knew that it was impossible between us.
I grew up in poverty, while Vincent was born into an elite intellectual family. There was an unbridgeable gap between us.
For all these years that I liked him, he always maintained a distance from me.
Until last month.
Vincent suddenly came to me looking miserable.
He said he had lost his memory, remembered nothing, and only remembered me.
Vincent loved extreme sports.
So it wasn’t impossible for him to have an accident and hit his head.
At that time, he looked at me with teary eyes and pleaded:
“Daphne, please, take me in.”
I softened and agreed to let him stay at my place.
During this time, I repeatedly suggested taking him to find his parents, but Vincent always refused.
He hugged my waist, acting incredibly aggrieved:
“To me, they are no different from strangers.
“Daphne, don’t you want me anymore?”
Vincent was very handsome and had saved my life once.
When he acted like that, I could only surrender.
Just like that, we lived together for a month.
The once unreachable man was now lying right next to my pillow.
It was so beautiful, like a dream.
And it was indeed a dream.
Because today, I had to wake up.
I deliberately made a little noise.
Vincent hurriedly hung up the phone and came out of the room.
“Daphne, when did you get back?”
“Just walked in.”
He secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
He immediately hugged me, burying his face in my neck.
“I was going to pick you up from work, I didn’t expect you to be back so early.”
I remained silent.
Vincent hugged me tighter, his lips pressing against my earlobe, kissing it lightly.
“What’s wrong? Are you unhappy at work today?”
“A little.”
“Who bullied you? I’ll go teach him a lesson!”
“Vincent,” I calmly pushed him away and asked, “Has your memory recovered at all?”
“I don’t think so.”
“Do you really not remember anyone?”
He smiled: “Anyway, since I woke up, I only have your name in my mind.”
“Then, what about Layla?”
Vincent frowned, pretending to think hard.
“Who is she? Should I know her?”
“Never mind, it’s nobody.”
Vincent obviously didn’t want to dwell on this topic either.
He quickly changed the subject.
Today was my birthday.
He said he had prepared a gift for me.
It was a pink trench coat with a very unique design.
“I saved up for a long time to buy this, do you like it?” Vincent observed my expression.
But I didn’t answer.
Because I suddenly remembered.
Layla loved wearing pink the most.
