THE LOST HEIRESS
Three days later in the afternoon.
I dragged my suitcase and told Vincent I was going on a business trip.
Vincent looked reluctant to part.
But when he saw I was still wearing that pink coat, his expression froze.
“Are you… still going to wear that?”
“Yeah. Didn’t you save up to buy this for me? Of course I have to wear it.”
He fetched another coat: “Change into this one.”
“What’s wrong? Is there a problem with the coat you gave me?”
Vincent’s eyes darted away: “It’s not very thick, I’m afraid you’ll catch a cold.”
“It’s almost summer, it won’t be cold.”
I looked into Vincent’s eyes and asked one last time: “What exactly do you want to say?”
He stayed silent for a long time, then shook his head.
“Nothing, as long as you like it.”
I smiled in relief.
This was his answer.
“I’m leaving, goodbye.”
The door gently closed.
Like a farewell.
The Daphne who loved Vincent was completely dead.
Only when a person is dead can their registration be canceled.
But this small matter was a piece of cake for the Lancaster family.
I changed my SIM card and replaced everything.
Heading towards a completely new life.
By the next day, Vincent realized something was wrong.
The messages he sent were like stones sinking into the sea.
Calls went unanswered.
Daphne had lost contact.
At first, Vincent comforted himself, saying it was fine, she might just be too busy.
She wasn’t someone worth distracting himself over.
But he couldn’t sleep.
The pillow Daphne slept on was still beside him, and the air was filled with her scent…
He tossed and turned uncomfortably, murmuring Daphne’s name into the air.
At this point, he felt it might just be a physiological addiction.
By the third day, there was still no news.
Vincent ran to Daphne’s company, only to be told that she had resigned.
Vincent felt like he had been struck by a club.
With staggering steps, he went to the police station.
“Daphne, yes, she is my… my girlfriend, but I can’t reach her, I suspect she’s in danger.”
“Are you sure? There is no such person in the system.”
“Please keep checking, it can’t be wrong.”
After typing on the keyboard for a while, the officer suddenly looked up:
“She’s dead.
“Just yesterday, her registration was canceled.”
A buzz rang out.
Vincent’s world lost all sound.
Half a year passed in a flash.
The birthday party of the Lancaster family’s matriarch in the Capital was attended by many people.
Fifty-five-year-old Lady Eleanor looked incredibly elegant.
She told everyone she met: “Isn’t this dress beautiful? My daughter picked it out for me!”
Everyone knew.
Half a year ago, the Lancaster family found their long-lost youngest daughter.
They spoiled her to no end.
Chairman Lancaster simply retired early, throwing all the work to his son, and spent every day doing only one thing: accompanying his youngest daughter on vacations.
His son, Arthur Lancaster, was very indignant about this.
Because he also wanted to spend more time with his sister.
Tonight’s birthday banquet was nominally to celebrate Eleanor’s birthday.
But in reality, it was to introduce the youngest daughter to everyone.
Eleanor was overjoyed, replacing her previous sorrowful face, and even looked younger.
This made everyone even more curious.
“Hey, have you seen that daughter of the Lancaster family?”
“Not even the paparazzi have captured a photo of her, how could I have seen her.”
“Then why are you dressed so seductively?”
“Aren’t you the same? Which single man here isn’t dressed to the nines? Everyone wants to catch the attention of the Lancaster heiress.”
“But I heard she has an arranged marriage…”
I walked quietly through the hall.
Everyone was busy gossiping.
With no one paying attention, I turned and entered the Lancaster family’s lounge.
I came to deliver clothes to Arthur.
Just now, a female guest accidentally spilled wine on his suit.
Arthur said:
“Daphne, go out in a bit and comfort that guest, she seems very remorseful.
“We are the hosts, there’s no need to make a guest feel bad over such a small matter.”
I agreed.
Leaving the lounge, I went to find the guest who spilled the wine.
Sure enough, there was a girl crying.
The man with her was comforting her.
The silhouettes of the two looked somewhat familiar.
Before I could react, the man turned his head.
“Daphne?!”
Vincent shot up from his seat, looking at me in disbelief.
