My Fiancé and My Nemesis Swapped Souls

Lately, Sylvester didn’t appear in front of me, but he sent messages every day, seemingly unwilling to give up.

Our two families once again canceled the wedding banquet, causing many people to be confused.

I didn’t know who spread the rumor saying I was dumped by Sylvester’s family.

For a while, wherever I went, I could hear outsiders whispering and making sarcastic remarks.

These voices seriously affected my work.

One day, I even scrolled past a scandal involving Sylvester and Hazel on the trending searches.

Someone had taken photos of them entering and leaving the hospital, and someone even dug up the fact that Sylvester had invested in a movie to get Hazel the lead role.

For a moment, their love story was spread in countless versions.

Among them, a fabricated version received the most likes. It basically said Sylvester rejected the commercial marriage for true love, mocking me as the wicked wealthy supporting female character who specialized in breaking up true lovers.

When I saw this trending topic, I happened to bump into Hazel at a work site.

Recently, her net worth had skyrocketed, receiving many offline promotional events, including a brand activity I was in charge of planning.

Having not seen her for a few days, she looked at me with a much more arrogant expression, deliberately rubbing her stomach: “About Sylvester and me, he’s told you everything, right?”

I smiled, too lazy to put on an act with her: “Hazel, you’ve had your eyes on Sylvester since college, haven’t you?”

“That’s right.” She admitted very frankly: “It’s too late for you to find out now. You and Sylvester have canceled the engagement, there are no more possibilities for you two.”

Seeing me say nothing, she smiled smugly: “But I’m different. I’m pregnant with Sylvester’s child. In the future, I will likely become the lady of his house.”

I looked at her smug, petty appearance and only felt disgusted.

I originally intended to let them off the hook, but these two people were truly too disgusting.

In that case, don’t blame me for not holding back.

“Hazel, do you know why Sylvester and I broke off the engagement?”

“Of course, it’s because of me.”

“Right, because of you.” I looked at her smugly smiling face: “It was because I felt disgusted that I told him to call off the wedding. However, I just realized that I gain nothing from canceling it. So, I decided not to cancel it anymore; I’ll marry him immediately next month.”

As soon as these words came out, a flash of panic crossed her face: “Are you sick? Who do you think you are? Do you think you can make him cancel the wedding when you want, and marry when you want?”

“Who do you think I am?”

My family’s surname is not just a mere name.

Hazel started to panic: “On what basis does Sylvester have to listen to you?”

“Are you sure? I thought you understood Sylvester very well.”

My gaze grew faint, articulating every word clearly: “Do you think he will listen to me or not?”

The smile on her face finally vanished; she had known me and Sylvester since college, how could she not be clear about it?

But she still stubbornly argued: “He and I already have a child, you can’t tear us apart!”

“Do you think Sylvester’s parents will allow you to step foot into their home?” Pausing for a moment, I pretended to be surprised: “Perhaps Sylvester’s parents still don’t know you are pregnant with his child, do they? Sylvester forbade you from telling them, right?”

Her face turned ugly.

I smiled: “If you have the guts, go and assert your claim yourself.”

“Don’t think I won’t dare!”  Hazel indeed was someone who couldn’t stand being provoked; the very next day, she went to make a scene at Sylvester’s house.

As soon as Sylvester’s mother saw her, she recognized her as Gabriel’s “girlfriend.” She didn’t believe someone of such a low class could be pregnant with her son’s flesh and blood, so she hastily called Gabriel over to confront them.

In the blink of an eye, the people of all three families knew about it.

Gabriel was violently scolded by his hot-tempered mother, cursing him for not controlling his lower half, calling him societal scum and a beast. Only after saying all the ugliest words in the world did she finally discover that the father of the child was actually Sylvester.

At that moment, the atmosphere on the scene became extremely awkward, especially for Sylvester’s mother, whose face grew increasingly unsightly, feeling as though Gabriel’s mother was cursing her son.

And Gabriel, enjoying the drama without minding it blowing up, said: “See? This is the real reason for canceling the engagement, don’t say it’s because of my little Olivia anymore.”

I glared at him, silently warning him not to drag me into this right now.

Acting as if he didn’t understand, he walked right in front of me in front of everyone: “Why are you looking at me? If you have something to say, you can whisper it in my ear.”

Everyone looked over at me and Gabriel with different expressions. I smiled patiently: “Since there’s no business of yours here anymore, you should leave quickly.”

“There’s no business of yours here either, what are you doing over here? Didn’t you already cancel the engagement?”

I gritted my teeth; this guy turned himself into a meat shield every time, and he specially loved dragging others down with him!

Sylvester’s mother didn’t want outsiders to mock them, so she ultimately forced a smile and let us leave.

Before leaving, she pulled my hand, speaking all sorts of sweet words, saying that Sylvester wronged me, her family wronged me. Judging by her tone, it seemed she was trying to emotionally manipulate me, aiming to make me forgive Sylvester.

While I was having a headache figuring out how to politely refuse, Gabriel walked over: “Auntie, what’s done is done. I believe little Olivia is a person of principles; she will definitely understand and give her blessing to Sylvester.”

Sylvester’s mother’s face instantly turned ugly.

On the way out of Sylvester’s house, my mother and Gabriel’s mother looked at Gabriel and me, hesitating to speak.

Finally, Gabriel’s mother couldn’t hold back anymore and blurted out: “What is the relationship between you two kids?”

My heart skipped a beat; had Gabriel’s mother misunderstood?

Gabriel put his arm around my shoulder: “Mom, don’t worry about it. Little Olivia and I still have things to do, you two mothers go back first.”

My eyes widened: “When did I ever with you…”

“Let’s go.”

He interrupted me, right in front of the parents of both families, forcefully dragging me away.

I couldn’t break free, so I could only comply. Before leaving, looking at the expressions of my mother and Gabriel’s mother, I knew for sure they had truly misunderstood.  Once in the car, I was just about to blow up, but Gabriel struck preemptively: “I know you don’t care about the public opinion online, but I have evidence that could ruin that couple’s reputation. Do you want to use it?”

This sentence successfully piqued my interest.

“What evidence?”

Actually, for the malicious comments targeting me, I initially thought Hazel was playing tricks, but after some investigation, I discovered Sylvester’s handiwork was in there too.

I clearly understood his intentions. Everyone was mocking me for having my engagement canceled. If I didn’t want to be a laughingstock, the only way was to marry him.

He was trying to use public opinion to force me to marry him.

“Last time, I coincidentally recorded a conversation between you and Sylvester, which included the part where he admitted to cheating.”

Gabriel said smugly, looking as if he was claiming credit.

After listening to his recording, I became a bit suspicious.

“Are you sure you recorded it coincidentally?”

“Fine, I admit I did it on purpose.”

He admitted it extremely frankly instead: “You don’t understand the kind of person Sylvester is at all. Since he was a child, this guy knew how to turn black into white and steal others’ credit. I was just taking precautions against him screwing you over, which is why I held a card back.”

“You understand him that well? What, have you been screwed over by him before?”

“What else?”

“You can also get screwed over?” I suddenly felt interested: “Tell me about it, how were you screwed over?”

“If you can’t remember, don’t ask me.”

His face dropped; he was sulking again.  With Gabriel’s evidence, plus a video shot by a “passerby” of Hazel showing off in front of me with her mistress attitude, getting posted online.

For a time, her reputation was thoroughly ruined.

The popularity she gained earlier from hyping her couple status on the trending searches had now turned into the very spit that drowned her.

Her career vanished into thin air.

Sylvester didn’t want her anymore either. He originally intended to take her for an abortion, only to find out at the hospital that she was never pregnant at all.  Having solved Sylvester’s matter, I thought I could finally relax, but Gabriel came to see me every few days, making my mother start to suspect whether he and I were dating.

“Having said that, a kid like Gabriel isn’t bad. Although he usually doesn’t look serious, he didn’t rely on his family and forged his own path. Now he’s an architect with some renown, much better compared to Sylvester. Sylvester is too much of a ‘mama’s boy’, not good, and his current achievements rely completely on his family, so his real ability is still unknown.”

“…” I have to say, once my mother holds a grudge against someone, she is super good at stepping on them to praise others.

“It’s fate that you might like Gabriel. Back then, I thought it was strange; Gabriel saved you from the fire, but you didn’t like him, and instead went to like Sylvester. Seeing you and Gabriel constantly bickering all these years, I thought you hated…”

“Mom, what did you say? Gabriel saved me?”

My mother was stunned: “How could you forget such a big thing? He saved your life from a sea of fire; how could you even forget this?”

I was utterly shocked: “Wasn’t it Sylvester who saved me?”

“Who told you it was Sylvester?”

I pressed my lips tightly together. At that time, I couldn’t see the face of my rescuer clearly. After waking up, the person standing next to my hospital bed was Sylvester. He was covered in mud and ash, looking as if he had just run out of the fire, so I subconsciously assumed he was the one.

Back then, I even asked him, and he didn’t deny it…

“Then why didn’t you tell me it was Gabriel?”

I complained a bit.

My mother looked at me innocently: “You never asked me. How was I supposed to know you misunderstood?”

I was angered to death by myself.

All these years, I had actually mistaken my savior.

But this guy Gabriel was really weird too. I had mentioned this matter to him before, so why didn’t he refute it and clarify things?  “Is this young master that naive? You were blind and mistook the person. What, did you want me to suffer grievances and actively run to tell you: ‘You got the wrong person~ I’m your savior~’?”

Gabriel’s exaggerated tone only made me feel sick and give me goosebumps.

“So, now that you know I’m your savior, do you intend to repay me with your body?”

“Alright, you can shut up.”

“Such double standards. When you thought Sylvester was the one who saved you, you happily and joyfully got engaged to him. But when you find out I was the one who saved you, you tell me to shut up.”

His voice carried a hint of grievance.

My emotions were a bit delicate. Actually, over the years, there were many times I wanted to ask him a question.

But I was afraid of being choked off by his foul mouth.

After a long silence, I still couldn’t hold back and blurted out: “Gabriel, do you like me?”
