The Wedding Crasher Moment
On the night before the wedding, I had a strange dream.
I dreamed that I was the male lead in a book, But the female lead was not Gwen.
At our wedding, someone came to crash it, But Gwen didn’t leave with the other party. She firmly chose me.
However, it was so strange. In the dream, the “me” gave her only suspicion and blame in return—was that right?
Although the wedding was completed as usual, The wedding crashing became a thorn in “my” heart. I thought Gwen had directed and acted it out herself; I also thought she had intentionally found an actor.
I never thought that Gwen was originally a radiant girl. Someone loving her was truly the most normal thing in the world.
After the marriage, our hearts grew distant. Added to the stimulus of my first love returning to the country, Gwen eventually fell ill and passed away.
On the day she died, “I” was actually accompanying my first love on a walk in the park. When the hospital called, it was impatiently hung up by “me”.
Watching all of this, I was about to go crazy. I knelt on the ground, begging the self in the dream: Go quickly. Go take a look at her. I beg you.
But no matter how hoarsely I shouted, no one saw me.
I was almost shaken awake. The pillow was covered in sweat, and my body was trembling uncontrollably.
I didn’t understand. With a human life disappearing right before my eyes, why could the self in the dream remain indifferent? Furthermore, that was someone I had lived with day and night! Just for so-called love? Could even a human life be disregarded?!
Why on earth did “I” become like that?!
Fear consumed me. I was afraid of becoming like that in the future, And also afraid of Gwen passing away.
I suddenly felt immense regret— I shouldn’t have listened to Julian and the others encouraging me to give Gwen some reality check.
There were still two hours before going to pick up the bride. I picked up my phone and searched for the causes of breast cancer. The website clearly stated that emotional factors, year-round anger, and depression easily trigger breast cancer.
I slammed my phone onto the floor, Not daring to look any further.
In the dream, the murderer who killed Gwen was none other than myself.
I endured until five in the morning, when dawn was just breaking. I finally calmed down and proceeded to pick up the bride according to the schedule. Nothing was wrong—everything was still in time to be redeemed. Gwen wouldn’t leave with the wedding crasher, and as long as I treated her well in the future…
I had thought things through so carefully, Yet I hadn’t expected Gwen to make a completely different choice from the dream.
Drake appeared. Gwen let him hold her hand without pushing him away.
I was truly panicked. Why was this different from the dream? Where on earth did it go wrong?
Later I thought that Gwen might have actually hesitated for a few seconds, But to me at that time, it felt longer than a lifetime— So long that I spoke tremblingly, begging her to stay.
But Gwen didn’t look at me. She lifted her wedding dress, revealing that pair of her favorite sneakers.
Gwen had once told me That wearing these shoes, she could run a marathon. Today at our big wedding, she intentionally wore these shoes.
My Gwen. Lifting her skirt, she ran toward the bright, free world.
I didn’t immediately chase out Because I was stunned.
In the dream, Gwen’s critically ill, frail appearance was still in my mind, Forming a sharp contrast with her right at that moment.
At that moment, I stupidly realized That she was meant to be like that—free, easygoing, without worries.
Later, under the urges of my family, I still chased after her, But all I saw was her and Drake’s backs.
Right, Drake. I knew the wedding crasher was him. Because in the dream, Drake, afraid that I would misunderstand Gwen, proactively apologized to me and admitted his mistake.
But “I” didn’t believe him. Or perhaps “I” actually believed it, but after going home, “I” still found a reason to blame Gwen.
What on earth was “I” blaming her for?
Standing by the roadside, listening to the noise of the surrounding guests, I suddenly understood. Because Gwen was too good—she could even tolerate my harsh words at the engagement party, Making me look so despicable.
Drake liking her didn’t surprise me either.
In fact, early on when Julian and Fabian were causing friction, Drake had stopped me. He asked: “Do you really have to treat Gwen like this?” I said: “What?” “You will be husband and wife in the future, a family.” “So what?” “Don’t let others ruin your life—treat her a bit better.”
I laughed heartily: “Brother, you’re managing too much.”
Drake rushed up and gave me a punch. That fight happened inexplicably. Afterward, he explained that because he had drunk too much, he disliked my tone of speaking, so he threw a punch out of impulse.
Only after having that dream did I understand everything. Drake’s restraint and tolerance were the final respect he gave me.
On the night Gwen ran away from the wedding, I sat silently in the new house all night. Bit by bit of the past rolled through my mind.
How could I have forgotten? Before, upon seeing Gwen for the first time, I was captivated by her radiant smile to the point of being unable to breathe. I pursued her wildly, using all those unseemly tricks I used to look down upon.
I liked her, and it had never had anything to do with Chloe. When she was angry, she indeed looked a bit like Chloe, But I fell in love with her for her smile. My love at first sight was for Gwen’s own self.
However, over the past two years, Julian and Fabian had constantly brainwashed me by my side, Saying that I was merely treating Gwen as a substitute. Hearing it for so long, I almost believed it was true.
Gwen must have believed it too, right? With too much disappointment accumulated, she chose to leave.
That was fine too. Being with me would make her sick. I would rather continue suffering in agonizing self-blame like this than have her get that illness again.
Sometimes I would go to take a look at Gwen. Secretly, after seeing her to the entrance of her residential community, I would leave. Seeing that everything was good with her, my mind was at ease.
A year later, I met Chloe. There was a distance of one meter between us as we politely caught up on the past.
To tell the truth, I had no way of facing Chloe. Just thinking about the me in the dream repeatedly hurting Gwen because of her made it impossible to converse with her naturally, Let alone get close.
Chloe didn’t seem to have any intention of getting close to me either. Her eyes were now completely filled with her work.
When finishing catching up, Chloe suddenly said: “I saw Gwen.”
I was stunned.
“She is my benefactor. Without her help, I wouldn’t have been able to complete that speech, nor would I have today.”
I didn’t understand, But looking at her expression, she really liked Gwen.
Chloe turned around and smiled at me: “Harrison, your taste is really good. Unfortunately, you don’t have that kind of good fortune.”
I was silent for a long time. “Yeah, I don’t have that fortune…”
That was the last sentence we spoke. After that, Chloe and I stepped onto two completely different tracks, never interacting again.
Another year passed. The people around had all changed. Fabian’s family went bankrupt, and Julian fell into a reputation crisis. But none of these had anything to do with me anymore.
My family’s business was also very hard to run; some restaurants couldn’t keep operating and could only close down.
That day, I was walking on the street when the mall’s big screen broadcasted the birth of the race car champion.
Drake, my former good brother— In this event dominated by Europeans and Americans, he surged ahead alone, Outperforming his best result. The entire venue was cheering for him.
When the camera swept across the spectator stands, my breath couldn’t help but hitch—
Gwen. She was still so radiant.
Drake got out of the car, like a child, crossing everything, running frantically to stand before her.
At this moment, the lenses of the entire world were focused on them.
She hugged him.
I knew That ray of light that had once illuminated me Had left.
