My Sister Slapped Me at the Jewelry Store — Then a Colonel Said, “Do That Again, I Dare You”
The force of the slap snapped my head to the side.
A sharp, hot pain flared across my skin, instantly followed by the metallic taste of blood in my mouth from where my teeth had caught the inside of my cheek.
Anthony Rossi gasped, taking a horrified step backward, nearly knocking over the tray of diamonds.
My mother didn’t gasp.
She didn’t move.
She just stood there, watching, entirely complicit in the assault.
I slowly turned my head back to face my sister.
The room was spinning slightly, but my vision tunneled, locking onto Vanessa.
She stood there, her chest heaving, her diamond-clad hand hovering in the air, a smug, victorious smirk playing on her lips.
She thought she had won.
She thought she had broken me down like she had when we were kids.
She opened her mouth, ready to deliver whatever venomous insult she had queued up next.
But she never got the chance.
Silence fell over the room like a heavy, suffocating blanket.
The stinging heat on my left cheek was a stark contrast to the icy, terrifying stillness that had suddenly seized the private viewing area of Kensington Jewelers.
Vanessa’s smug smile was permanently etched onto her face, completely unaware of the massive shadow looming just outside the frosted glass doors of our enclave.

Editing for example Brandon looked down on her at the jewelers but he was in custody.
