The Memory of the Alps

I didn’t expect that, as the dignified heir to a major family, Luke could do something as despicable as kidnapping.

It was as if he had anticipated my every move and resistance.

When he burst into the room, he carefully brought along two burly bodyguards.

When he confirmed verbally that I wouldn’t obediently get on the plane with him, he signaled his men to restrain me, injected me with a mild sedative, and secretly took me out of the hospital through the back door.

I naively thought Sebastian was really angry and left, but unexpectedly, as I was carried to the car, I vaguely saw him still standing smoking, waiting outside the side gate.

I tried to struggle and open my mouth to call him for help, but Luke ruthlessly covered my mouth tightly, forced my head down in the car, and urged the driver to step on the gas and escape in another direction.

The bastard even despicably replayed his old trick, using my fingerprint to unlock my phone to send a heartless message to Sebastian.

【I’ve thought it through, I still decided to return to New York with my fiancé to complete the wedding, please don’t disturb my life anymore. This is my contact number, you can save it, when the wedding is held I will send you an invitation to join the joy.】

I looked at him with tear-blurred eyes, full of despair and contempt.

Seeing his disgusting true face, I almost guessed the whole truth about who arranged the accident seven years ago.

“We’ll stay at this suburban hotel for today. Early tomorrow morning, we’ll head straight to the private airport to go back to New York.”

He put on a fake, chillingly gentle smile, reaching out to stroke my head.

I avoided the touch in disgust, glaring at him fiercely and clearly.

His smile twisted and froze.

“Now I’ll have someone go to the hotel you rented in the center to get your luggage. Just take your medicine and rest well, don’t think about running away.”

“Give my phone back.”

“You want to call your old flame Sebastian for help?”

“Even if I use the phone to contact the police or anyone, you have no right to detain me illegally, restricting my freedom of movement.”

“I am your legal fiancé to be married, why wouldn’t I have the right to teach you a lesson?”

His face began to show crazy control, and I frowned in fear.

For seven years, playing the role of a perfect fiancé, I was completely blinded and didn’t realize Luke had such a personality disorder.

Suppressing my fear, not wanting to provoke his animalistic nature and cause him to commit extreme violence, I had to lower my voice and pretend to be meek: “I’m so bored alone in this closed room, I want to borrow a laptop to watch a movie for entertainment.”

“Okay, I’ll have a bodyguard bring a laptop in for you.”

A laptop connected to the internet was enough of an opportunity.

As soon as Luke disappeared behind the locked door, I immediately logged into a hidden account on iMessage and video-called my biological brother, William Evans, who was residing in London.

“…”

I was successfully rescued by a group of mercenaries sent by William right on the highway heading to the private airport.

“Well done, Luke you brat! I wasted my trust valuing you and entrusting my sister to you, and you dare to turn your back and treat my sister so badly?”

I sat in the armored car, watching Luke and William fighting furiously in the middle of the blocked highway.

Then I heartlessly urged the driver to step on the gas and escape the messy scene.

I firmly believed my brother William had enough strength to win this fight.

When he was studying at Oxford, he was famous as the captain of the heavyweight boxing team, making everyone fear him.

Of course, even if William was unlucky and didn’t win, a beast in human clothing like Luke deserved a severe beating.

Taking a taxi back to the lobby of Sebastian’s corporate building, I suddenly remembered that in my rush to escape earlier, my phone was still in my coat pocket left in Luke’s car.

Without any way to contact Sebastian’s personal number, and the lobby security guards following protocol not allowing anyone without a badge upstairs, I had to wait aimlessly at a cafe opposite the company’s revolving doors.

But I kept my eyes peeled until the evening rush hour, the crowd thinning out, and I still hadn’t seen Sebastian step out from work or go down to the parking garage.

“Excuse me, did your CEO not come to the office to work today?” I grabbed an employee wearing a badge walking by.

The employee hesitated, assessing me, then finally nodded friendly and answered: “Mr. Silva hasn’t been seen returning to the company to manage things since he left yesterday noon.”

So he hasn’t returned to the company to handle work at all since the hospital…

“I lost my phone, could you please help me call his desk phone or his personal assistant’s number?”

“Miss, I’m just an information desk clerk. Please don’t make it difficult and push the risk onto me, please leave…”

From her timid eyes, I could see her fear of company rules; she didn’t want to risk getting fired for offending the board of directors just to help a stranger like me.

I sighed in despair, put on my coat, and stood up, intending to turn around and walk back to the hotel.

Suddenly, a deep male voice exclaimed: “It’s you?”

Before I could gather my senses to react whether he was talking to me or calling someone else, a strange man appeared in front of me.

The man in his thirties wearing a business suit hurriedly blocked my path: “Wait here for a moment, let me make a phone call to report.”

I frowned in confusion, watching him take out his phone and dial.

“Sir, Miss Evans is currently standing in our company lobby!”

Sir? Could he be calling Sebastian?

The man hung up the phone, looking at me with a flattering, obsequious look: “Hello Miss Evans, it’s an honor because we met last time. The last time you and Mr. Silva had a tense conversation in the lobby here, I happened to be walking by and heard.”

I forced a polite smile and nodded a greeting to him.

Last time my mind was a mess, so I didn’t pay any attention to the passersby around.

“Mr. Silva is turning his car around on the road and rushing back here, please take a seat on the sofa and wait a moment.”

He seemed afraid his windfall would fly away, stubbornly sitting there serving tea and water with me in the lobby.

At first, he solicitously offered to take me to the VIP room upstairs to rest, but I warily declined.

Mainly because I wasn’t sure of this person’s true identity and motives. Randomly following a stranger into a closed space was ultimately unsafe.

Waiting until the streetlights came on, my eyes drooping with sleepiness, a familiar pair of handmade leather shoes suddenly appeared in front of me.

I jolted awake and looked up; Sebastian was panting, his silk tie crooked and losing its neatness, beads of sweat the size of beans rolling down from his high forehead to his sharp cheekbones.

He looked at me with panicked, red-rimmed gray eyes, his voice hoarse with worry and suppressed trembling: “Did you manage to escape?”

“Did you just come back from a fight with someone…”

The silly question hadn’t even left my mouth when I was suddenly pulled up by his strong force and hugged tightly against his solid chest: “Lily…”

I was shocked and stunned.

The overtime employees around witnessing this scene were also startled, the gasps of surprise whispering in waves across the large lobby.

Among them, the most awkward and terrified expression undoubtedly belonged to the information desk clerk who had refused to help me earlier.

“Please don’t disappear again this time, stay with me.”

The powerful man buried his head in the crook of my neck, his sobbing voice filled with begging, pain, and humility.

My frozen heart felt like it was shocked by a high-voltage current, vibrating with numbness and a gut-wrenching ache.

“Boss, Miss Evans sat patiently waiting for you all afternoon, she definitely won’t go anywhere else!”

The man who reported the news took the opportunity to claim credit with a flattering tone.

Sebastian took a deep breath and let go of me, not even glancing at him, just throwing out an order: “Go up to the accounting department and find the financial assistant to get your bonus check.”

Then he tightly grasped my hand and led me straight into the private elevator upstairs.

When the elevator doors closed, through the crack in the glass door, I could even see the man’s extremely excited expression, as if he had just won the jackpot falling from the sky.
